Background
This gene encodes a C2H2-type zinc finger protein which acts a transcriptional repressor of genes involved in neuronal development. The encoded protein recognizes a specific sequence motif and recruits components of chromatin to target genes. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Function
function:Sequence-specific DNA-binding protein with transcriptional repression activity. Binds the consensus DNA sequence 5'-[AC]ACATCTG[GT][AC]-3' which contains the E box core. May play a role in the organization of chromosomes in the nucleus.,PTM:Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR.,similarity:Contains 1 BTB (POZ) domain.,similarity:Contains 4 C2H2-type zinc fingers.,subcellular location:Associates with condensed chromatin.,subunit:Interacts with DNMT3A.,tissue specificity:Lymphoid tissues, testis, heart, brain, skeletal muscle, and pancreas and, at much lower level, other tissues.,
